TYPES OF ALOPECIA WE TREAT
MAIN TYPES OF ALOPECIA
Alopecia Areata (AA) — Alopecia areata is an autoimmune condition that results in patchy hair loss. It can appear as a single bald patch or in some cases, extensive patchy hair loss.
Alopecia Totalis (AT) — Alopecia totalis is a more advanced form of alopecia areata in that individuals afflicted with it suffer complete loss of all hair on their scalp .
Alopecia Universalis (AU) — Alopecia universalis is the most advanced form of alopecia areata which results in complete loss of all hair on the body, this includes eyelashes and eyebrows.
Androgenetic Alopecia (AGA) — Androgenetic alopecia is more commonly referred to as male pattern baldness. It is characterized by the thinning of hair in both men and women. It is understood to be a hereditary form of hair loss and is the most common type of progressive hair loss.
Alopecia Barbae (AB) — Alopecia barbae is alopecia areata that is localised to the beard area and can be characterized by a single bald patch or more extensive hair loss across the beard area.
Traction Alopecia — Traction alopecia is usually caused by excessive pulling or tension of hair as a result of certain hair styles. It is more often seen in women, particularly those of East-Indian and Afro-Carribbean origin. The amount of hair loss depends on how the hair is being pulled; prolonged treatment of hair in this manner can lead to the stop of new hair follicles developing and lead to permanent hair loss.
Alopecia Telogen Effluvium — This form of alopecia where more than normal amounts of hair fall out. With this type of condition, there is a general ‘thinning’ of hair and unlike some other scalp conditions, it is temporary and the hair that was lost usually recovers. Though no official cure has been discovered, there are treatments available. One of those treatments is scalp micro-pigmentation or SMP. In this procedure, your entire scalp is treated – even areas where hair still exists. This is done to assure a uniform look in case existing hair falls out in the future.
