Does Getting Scalp Micropigmentation Hurt Like A Tattoo?

The process of scalp micropigmentation (hair tattoo) involves tattooing on the scalp to simulate hair growth. Most people who undergo scalp micropigmentation (hair tattoo) are balding or have lost their hair, yet others do it for aesthetic/density purposes. Does Scalp micropigmentation (hair tattoo) hurt? Neither the procedure nor the aftercare are painful, and it can provide long-term relief to patients who have scars on their heads caused by accidents, injuries, or other traumas.

Scalp Micropigmentation sounds like a tattoo, doesn't it?

In spite of the fact that scalp micropigmentation is technically considered tattooing, it is very different from what you would see or experience with a traditional tattoo. To create the illusion of a full head of hair, scalp micropigmentation involves applying ink to the scalp.

Due to the advanced ink technology, tools, techniques, and expertise involved in the procedure, the procedure is not as you might expect. Using scalp micropigmentation, you can achieve realistic-looking hair where there would have once been none. It is possible to feel slight pain but it is very minor and will not affect your day in any significant way.

What is the level of pain I can expect with scalp micropigmentation?

Is scalp micropigmentation painful? No! Scalp micropigmentation is a non-surgical treatment. The procedure is typically painless, and although there may be some slight discomfort, the practitioner will ensure that you are completely comfortable before proceeding. The pain is less intense than a tattoo because scalp micropigmentation only goes through two layers of the skin. Plus, unlike a scrapping method of a tattoo, micro-pigmentation uses a dotting technique.

Taking Care Of Your Scalp Prior To Treatment

Before your treatment, you can prepare in many ways to ensure the micro-pigmentation treatment is long-lasting, hurts less, and achieves better results. Consider following these instructions before your Scalp Micro-pigmentation treatment.

-Do not wash your hair for 48 hours prior.

-Use a non-scented soap or is kind on the scalp and avoid any oils.

-Avoid conditioners, gels, creams, mousse, or lotions before treatment because they can affect how well it takes to administer pigment onto your skin.

– Do not take any pain relievers, medications, alcohol, or caffeine 48 hours before your session.

Taking Care Of Your Scalp After Your Treatment

You may feel sore on your scalp or notice redness after your treatment. This is completely normal and will typically go away on its own. Regardless, you’ll still want to follow aftercare instructions to protect the treatment and your scalp. After treatment, make sure to:

– Keep your scalp as clean and dry as possible to avoid any irritation.

– Avoid using anything on the treatment area that will cause extra redness or increase sensitivity, such as heat treatments (flat irons, curling irons), hair products with alcohol in them, or immediately dying your hair.

– Avoid sun exposure during the first few days as the UV can break down the pigment.

Scalp micropigmentation is a non-invasive treatment that involves applying ink to the scalp to give the appearance of a full head of hair. It’s not painful, and it can be used as an alternative for people who have lost their hair or are just starting to notice hair loss.
